Cops Collect Money while sitting on Krispy Kreme Roofs

Officers will raise funds and awareness atop Krispy Kreme stores
for Special Olympics Oklahoma

Tulsa, OKPolice lights flashing, cars stopping, officers pleading…is it the making of a cops and robbers movie? Not likely, but it is all part of an elaborate scheme to draw attention to a good cause. It is all in good fun as cops from 20 agencies across Oklahoma converge on the roofs of Krispy Kreme Doughnuts for the 4th Annual Cops on Doughnut Shops event benefiting Special Olympics Oklahoma.

For three exciting days, October 20-22 cops will be dropping collection buckets from the roof, greeting patrons at the door, and introducing themselves at the drive-through in an effort to reach a goal of $40,000 for Special Olympics Oklahoma. Krispy Kreme Doughnuts generously supplies the locations and incentives for contributions.

The kids love this event because they get to meet cops in a friendly setting and see first hand neat cop stuff including static displays of Beat The Heat Cars, Bomb Squad Trucks, and Police Command Centers; Mounted Police and Police Explorers. For the parents some beneficial services provided at various times throughout the weekend include child car seat checks and fingerprinting performed by officers. And, of course, Krispy Kreme’s doughnuts are always delicious!

LOCATIONS include all three Oklahoma Krispy Kreme Doughnuts—two in Oklahoma City and one in Tulsa.

Law Enforcement Torch Run
The Law Enforcement Torch Run (LETR) is an international charity made up of law enforcement agencies that raise money for Special Olympics.  LETR was adopted as an official charity of the International Association of Chiefs of Police in 1981 and was begun in Oklahoma in 1986. The mission was simple: Carry the Flame of Hope to the State Summer Games. As the years passed, the mission grew to include fundraising and increasing public awareness of Special Olympics Oklahoma. Today, LETR is the guardian of the Flame of Hope for the Special Olympics Oklahoma Summer and Winter Games and actively raises money and public awareness throughout the year.  To learn more about LETR and Special Olympics Oklahoma, visit www.sook.org.
