Many products and services are necessary to deliver quality programs throughout the year. In-kind donations are a significant portion of our overall budget. In fact, 28% of our overall 2004 income was from donated products and services.
Special Olympics was created by the Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr. Foundation for persons with intellectual disabilities [mental retardation]. Special Olympics Oklahoma is not funded by this foundation. Special Olympics Oklahoma currently receives no funds from federal or state grants and is not a United Way Agency. Special Olympics Oklahoma is designated a non-profit organization under the IRS Code Section 501(c)(3). Special Olympics Oklahoma is 100% dependent on private gifts from individuals, businesses, civic groups, corporations and foundations to ensure a solid program of training and competition for local, area and state events. Financial contributions are essential to the continued growth and expansion of our program.
