Big 12 Commitment


The Big 12 has renewed its ongoing partnership with Special Olympics for the upcoming years. Under this partnership, the Big 12 and its universities work with the seven Special Olympics programs for various program and fundraising events.

In Oklahoma, Special Olympics has partnered with The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University for a variety of events including Winter Games and Summer Games.

"Spread the Word to End the Word" Campaign

Special Olympics Oklahoma is honored to partner with the Big 12 Conference, The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University to help promote the "Spread the Word to End the Word" campaign.

Spread the Word to End the Word is an on-going effort to raise the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word 'retard(ed)' and encourage people to stop using the r-word. The campaign is intended to get schools, communities and organizations to rally and pledge their support.

Members of The University of Oklahoma Spirit, band and other students wore "Spread the Word to End the Word" T-shirts during The University of Texas and The University of Oklahoma Women's Basketball game on January 21, 2012 at the Lloyd Nobel Arena in Norman.

January 25 & 28, 2012

Members of Oklahoma State University Pom, Cheer, band, and basketball support group, the Spurs, along with many other students wore "Spread the Word to End the Word" T-shirts during the University of Missouri and Oklahoma State University Men's Basketball game on January 25, 2012 in Stillwater. They also wore T-shirts during the Kansas State University and Oklahoma State University Women's Basketball game on January 28, 2012 in Stillwater.
